In Other Words is a community center, event space, and independent feminist bookstore (one of the last few in the country) in the Albina neighborhood of North Portland, Oregon. In Other Words is a space to gather, heal, learn, build, and organize. We are almost entirely volunteer run, with just one (that’s right one!) paid staff member – our bookkeeper. The rest of our staff and board is made up of a dedicated squad of volunteers who work hard year round to provide an accessible, safe, and welcoming space for Portland’s social justice community.
Like many radical social justice organizations in this current political climate, we are constantly struggling to make ends meet and we’re currently in dire need of serious funding and a big increase in our volunteer capacity to stay open.
In addition to a massive push to recruit new volunteers, we need to raise at least $20,000 in order to keep our doors open, and ideally need to meet our annual goal of $50,000 in order to remain sustainable. It costs us a bare minimum $5,000 per month in order just to squeak by, and we need all the support our community can give in order for us to stay open into the year 2017 and beyond.
Donate today if you are able in order to help In Other Words continue to grow into the passionate, committed, brave, and resilient feminist community organizing space we all need and want. And if you’re interested in volunteering, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
