In Other Words is a non-profit, volunteer-run, feminist community center in Portland, Oregon. Our mission is to support, enrich, and empower the feminist community through literature, art, and educational and cultural events. We have a storefront that serves as a book store, a lending library, and a venue for feminist events.
We are located at 14 NE Killingsworth St. in Portland, Oregon. We’re open from Noon – 7 on Tuesday – Saturday. Stop in and say hello!

In Other Words Feminist Community Center is seeking motivated, feminist-aligned individuals to join our Board of Directors and Volunteer Leadership Team. Ideal candidates with a background in communications, finance, fundraising, retail and/or volunteer coordination. Applicants with ties to business communities, local government, philanthropic communities, or communities of color are especially encouraged to apply. Staffing the bookstore is a great way to gain experience while you contribute to making this feminist space accessible and welcoming to our community. The Lead Staffing Coordinator’s role is to oversee staffers’ jobs and accountability, cultivate a supportive feminist mentorship program, and promote the values and mission of IOW. The lead volunteer coordinator oversees the volunteer program at In Other Words, cultivates a supportive feminist mentorship program with the help of work teams, promotes our values and the mission of In Other Words with the responsibility of making decisions about day-to-day actions in the store.
