In Other Words is a non-profit, volunteer-run, feminist community center in Portland, Oregon. Our mission is to inspire and cultivate feminist communities, nurturing social justice. We have a storefront that serves as a book store, a lending library, and a venue for feminist events.

In Other Words seeks Fundraisers and Party Planners

As part of our Volunteer Leadership Program, In Other Words provides applicable work experience and community organizing skills, resume and job reference material, and leadership opportunities to members of our feminist communities who take on volunteer positions with In Other Words.

Do you love to plan parties?  Do you have a knack for fundraising events?  Are you organized and motivated? Join the Fundraising & Development Team at In Other Words Feminist Community Center and help us plan our 20th anniversary birthday bash!

Duties and Responsibilities:

You will work with a team of committed volunteers at In Other Words Feminist Community Center to:

  • Plan/coordinate 20th birthday party fundraising event
  • Coordinate Set-up and clean-up before and after event
  • Assist with tracking and tabulation of revenue generated from event
  • Report fundraising progress to the Development Committee

Desired Skills:

  • Commitment to feminist values
  • Friendly and outgoing personality
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Strong organization and follow-through skills
  • Ability to work independently or as a team
  • Experience in fundraising is an asset, but not required
  • Experience in marketing is an asset, but not required

Leadership and resume-building opportunity:

  • Great for people who are interested in development, fundraising, event planning, and volunteer coordination

Time commitment:

Varies depending on the week, minimum two hours per week to start.  Time commitment may increase as the event draws near.  Applicants must be available to help plan the event throughout the summer and be present for the actual event in autumn of 2013
